“Isolation exercises ignore how the body is designed to function”. If this is a belief you hold you may be limiting your client’s ability to optimize their training experience. There is no one way or best system to create optimal exercise. But there is a way to determine what is “functional” and what options exist in the domain of “functional”.
We will explore and discuss the current buzz words in training; “primal movement patterns and functional training. We will discuss the risks and benefits of applying force to motion using methods of instability and simulation training. Additionally, we will explore the theories associated with primal movements and “training movement not muscles”.
We will present an unbiased perspective on exercise relative to being "functional" or "dysfunctional" using key science based principles for analyzing any form or method of exercise.
Objectives:
- Provide insight as to what makes an exercise functional.
- Eliminate any misinformation relative to “isolation exercises” being contradictory to human function.
- Provide information that will enable the fitness training professional to make decisions about the method or system of training they will use based upon the skills and knowledge to do so safely, effectively and efficiently.
