Health and Fitness Assessments and Exercise Prescription

Based on AAPTE’s Sequential method for developing an Appropriate Individualized Exercise Prescription, this course will provide the exercise professional with the knowledge necessary for conducting proper pre-exercise screening. 

As well as, suggested method’s for establishing appropriate exercise prescription and programming starting points. Using case studies, we will address the concept of progression based on the individual abilities, needs, and goals. Practical application will include; performing a pre-screening assessment and risk stratification, determining fitness capacity and determining an appropriate exercise prescription based on applying exercise training principles and exercise parameters (Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type).

Objectives:
Participants will be able to:

  • Recognizing disease risk factors, physiological variables and the implications to exercise.
  • Perform basic assessments including blood pressure, heart rate, body compistion
  • Establishing fitness capacity and limitations based on clients current level of health.
  • Determine what assessments and testing would be appropriate and is within the practicing professional’s scope of practice.
  • Integrate exercise to optimize functional independence and improve exercise tolerance.
