Stress Response and Exercise

Description

This course is designed to provide a greater understanding of the body’s response to stress. It will offer a review of the body’s stress system and hormonal involvement.  Through discussion, students will review the endocrine system’s response when homeostasis is threatened in the body. Additionally, this course will explore the process that takes place in response to stress, and implications that challenge the body when stress becomes chronic. 

The discussion will include ways that will help the fitness professional determine means to balance the stress response with an appropriate exercise prescription. 

Objectives:

  1. Recognize how chronic stress negatively affects the body and its effect on exercise.
  2. Understand the basic hormone fluctuations that take place in response to stressors.
  3. Understand ways to provide increased stress management through adaptations of the exercise prescription.

This home study concludes with a 5 question multiple choice test. A minimum 4 questions must be answered correctly to earn CEC certificate.
